In 1979, the Community Minded Women organization initiated a project to establish a historical society for Tipp City, Ohio culminating in the formation of the Tippecanoe Historical Society.
The Society purchased a building at the corner of N 3rd and Walnut Streets in December 1985. This building housed the Tipp City Post Office in the early 1930s. With support from local organizations, fundraisers and major contributions from the Tipp Foundation - the Tippecanoe Historical Society Museum was opened on April 29, 1991.
Since its formation, the Tippecanoe Historical Society has hosted informational meetings and guest speakers; sponsored field trips, participated in local celebrations and conducted tours of Tipp City's historic district. In addition, the Society works with youth and adult groups, collects materials for the Museum and hosts social events for its members.
The Tippecanoe Historical Society and Museum is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The continued generosity of community members and organizations allow us to be custodians of the area's rich historical legacy. We always welcome new members and volunteers.
